Living
Intelligence Systems

A research framework for investigating intelligence as an evolving property of interacting systems, relationships, networks and environments.

Central Research Question
Can intelligence emerge not only from individual components, but from the relationships and interactions that connect them?

01 โ€” From Intelligent Systems to Living Systems

The Anuma framework begins with an intelligent system represented by state, relationships, memory, context and agency:

๐’ฎโ‚œ = (Xโ‚œ, Rโ‚œ, Mโ‚œ, Cโ‚œ, Aโ‚œ)

The Living Intelligence Systems extension asks what happens when multiple such systems interact continuously.

๐’ฎโ‚ โ†” ๐’ฎโ‚‚ โ†” ๐’ฎโ‚ƒ โ†” ... โ†” ๐’ฎโ‚™

The focus therefore shifts from isolated system behaviour toward the structure and dynamics of relationships among systems.

02 โ€” Network Representation

A network can be represented mathematically as:

G = (V, E, W)
V โ€” Nodes Entities, agents, systems, organisms or other distinguishable components.
E โ€” Edges Relationships or interactions connecting components.
W โ€” Weights Values representing the strength or significance assigned to relationships.
G โ€” Network The resulting relational structure.

Within a living intelligence system, this structure may evolve as interactions change.

03 โ€” The Evolving Relational Structure

Relationships are not necessarily static.

Rโ‚œ โ†’ Rโ‚œโ‚Šโ‚

An interaction can modify the relationship itself, creating a feedback process in which the network influences its components while the components simultaneously influence the network.

System โ†” Relationship โ†” Environment

This recursive structure is central to the concept of a living intelligence system.

04 โ€” Emergent Intelligence

The framework proposes that system-level intelligence may contain contributions that are not adequately represented by summing the capabilities of isolated components.

Isystem = ฮฃIi + Irelations + Iemergence
ฮฃIแตข Contributions from individual components.
Irelations Contribution associated with relationships among components.
Iemergence Proposed system-level contribution arising from interaction and organization.
Isystem Proposed representation of total system-level intelligence.

This is a proposed modelling framework. The existence, magnitude and measurability of such emergent contributions are empirical questions.

05 โ€” Distributed Intelligence

Intelligence does not necessarily have to be located in one central computational unit.

Intelligence = Distributed Across Relationships

In a distributed system, different nodes can hold different information, capabilities and local states while the network provides the structure through which these components interact.

The Anuma framework investigates whether such distributed relational structures can produce measurable forms of coordination and adaptation.

06 โ€” Biological Systems

The living-intelligence framework is intentionally broader than artificial computation.

Biological systems can be investigated as networks of
